I can’t say enough of how pleased I am with the tutoring at Excel. I have had tutors for my child since she was in 2nd grade. I found them wherever I could. Retired teachers, college students and teachers on summer break. It was never consistent but it was the only way I could make sure she always had someone supporting her school learning. When Excel opened in Sioux Center I jumped at the chance. I knew the programs reputation and was thrilled that they would have many options for my daughters various needs. We are going on almost 8 months of various programs and just today, my daughter asked why we only ‘get to go twice’ a week. She loves the activities, the tutors and the atmosphere. It has been a true blessing.

My son started Excel the summer before second grade. He had many struggles, starting in Kindergarten. At that time, we had him tested at a facility in Sioux Falls and he was diagnosed with dyslexia. It was a hard diagnosis because they want to diagnose dyslexia early, but since he was just learning to read, it can be a bit early to diagnose as well. He struggled thru first grade and towards the end of that year we heard Excel was coming to Sioux Center. Megan (the owner) and I talked. She said he would be a perfect candidate. We had him tested and it showed he was quite a ways behind his peers (at a kindergarten level). We started tutoring that summer, 3 days a week, which went into the fall. We saw such an improvement in his reading, his writing, but most importantly, his self esteem towards school work. He wanted to read & write now! He even asked if he could go to Excel school all the time! My son exited his Excel program reading at grade level. They made the learning experience so fun for him. We were told after he completed the course, they wanted him to be trained in a new way of learning so that he would not have to come back. On his report card halfway thru second grade, he is now reading at 97% accuracy according to his school teacher!! He was very excited to have completed his course there, but he often asks if he can go back to visit everyone at Excel!!
