"We believe that all children can learn to read and write."

THE AVERAGE STUDENT GOES UP 2 GRADE LEVELS IN JUST 4 MONTHS WITH OUR UNIQUE PROGRAM!

Excel Achievement Programs

Study Skills/Content Reading Strategies (textbooks):
This is a 20 hour course that covers everything from how to better comprehend textbooks to test-anxiety. Excel’s unique program first identifies your child’s top five personality strengths and then matches individual study skills to these strengths. Students will learn ways to get better organized, improve their study strategies, and much more! Excel’s study skill program is like no other and has achieved amazing results with middle school, high school, and college students.

ACT PREP
Our program is set apart from the rest because of the quality of our instructors and the personalized instruction each student recieves. We utilize the latest research in ACT Prep. On average, students have been able to to raise their composite score by 4 points after taking our ACT Prep instruction.

Writing:
Specific units of study are used to teach students the components of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. Students will learn how to apply grammar skills in the context of real writing. A research-based computer program is also used. Most importantly, students will gain a love of writing!

Mathematics:
Hands-on mathematics is offered for students in grades K-8, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Students will learn the “why” of each concept as well as the practical application of each skill. Three-dimensional manipulatives are used to facilitate students in using their own learning style to help math “make sense.” Students then transfer this knowledge to paper/pencil activities to prepare them for work done in school. Students will also use the latest in computer technology to supplement their learning.

Dyslexia Intervention:
If a child is not responding to reading programs used at school, a different approach is needed.  Excel Achievement Center understands and uses one of the most successful programs to intervene with children with dyslexia. Excel's research based approach works! We understand that one in five children have dyslexia and are not--as commonly misunderstood--"those children who see and make letters backwards."

Intermediate Reading (reading to learn):
The focus at this level is on comprehension. Reading is meaning not just “word calling”. We teach the students to read to gather meaning and not just to “get done.” At Excel, we will give your child specific comprehension tools that they will be able to use for a lifetime.

Early Literacy:
Excel’s unique researched based literacy program comes from New Zealand. The Center also uses the Lindamood-Bell® Seeing Stars® program within its tutoring program. These programs effectively teach reading fluency, phonics, visual memory, and reading comprehension. Students will work with a tutor one-on-one using a variety of books and educational tools to enhance their learning. This program is aligned with the National Reading Panel’s research.

Comprehension/ Spelling:
Does your child ever come to the bottom of a page and cannot recall what was just read? Sometimes students do a wonderful job of pronouncing words, but cannot recall information. Excel Achievement’s comprehension program will give your child specific tools to use for a lifetime. We teach students how to read for meaning and then remember what they have read!
Our spelling program is unique in that it focuses on visual processing to assist students in retaining new words in their long term memory. This program is designed for students who can pronounce words as they read, but struggle with spelling.

Writing/Spelling:
This program helps students who struggle with handwriting, spelling, and the specific components of the writing process. One-on-one coaching is motivating and engaging.

Ivy League Track:
Give your child the opportunity to reach full potential academically in our Ivy League Track.  If your child complains about being bored in school, is looking for a new challenge, or you simply feel that learning can be taken to new heights, Excel Achievement’s Ivy League track offers options to help your child soar! Students as young as age 4 have participated in our Ivy League reading, writing, and math.  Dynamic experts in each field will coach your child one-on-one to reach new heights in learning.

Below is one parent’s comment on the program.

“We moved to South Dakota after living in Massachusetts when our son Anthony was entering high school. He was always bright but he wanted to go to college at an Ivy League School. Excel Achievement Center helped our son strengthen his skills in writing, math, study skills and to be organized. Excel was very important in him meeting his goals and being successful. He is so excited to be a new freshman at Brown University in Providence. Our daughter Melissa, who just entered high school, also wants to attend an Ivy League school and is on a similar program as her brother at Excel Achievement Center.”
